Water Formula base
Water creates the fluid phase that lets pigments, humectants and emulsifiers come together in a spreadable cream. That helps the tint distribute in a thin, even layer instead of feeling heavy.
Cosmetic water phases are commonly purified to controlled quality specifications. On the ingredient label, the correct INCI term remains simply “Water.”
Alcohol Quick-set carrier
Alcohol is a lightweight, fast-evaporating carrier. It helps the color spread evenly, then supports a quicker dry-down so the finish feels less wet or greasy on the scalp.
Fast evaporation is useful for a quick-set tint, but alcohol can feel drying or sting freshly shaved, compromised or very sensitive skin. Apply only to an intact scalp and patch-test first if you are sensitive.
CI 77499, CI 77492 & CI 77491 Iron oxide pigments
These black, yellow and red inorganic pigments are blended to build natural-looking color. The goal is optical: reduce the contrast between visible scalp and surrounding hair without a permanent oxidative dye process.
Iron oxides have a long history of use in makeup and are permitted by the FDA for cosmetic use subject to applicable identity and purity specifications. They are colorants—not hair-growth or hair-loss treatment ingredients.
Acrylates/Ethylhexyl Acrylate Copolymer Flexible film former
This film-forming polymer helps anchor pigment to the scalp and supports resistance to water and transfer. It creates the lightweight wear layer that keeps the color in place.
Cosmetic acrylate copolymers are evaluated for topical use when formulated to avoid irritation. Because this ingredient forms a film, remove the product thoroughly as directed—especially if your scalp is prone to buildup or folliculitis.
Ceteareth-25 Emulsifier
Ceteareth-25 helps ingredients that do not naturally mix stay evenly combined. That supports a consistent cream texture and a more uniform amount of pigment with each application.
It is widely used as a cosmetic emulsifier and is generally well tolerated in finished formulas. As with most surfactant-like materials, very sensitive skin can occasionally react.
Butylene Glycol Humectant + solvent
This multifunctional glycol helps dissolve and distribute other ingredients while retaining some moisture. In practice, it supports smooth glide and keeps pigment from applying unevenly.
Butylene Glycol is common in leave-on cosmetics and has a favorable tolerance profile for most users. Individual sensitivities are still possible.
Propylene Glycol Humectant + solvent
Propylene Glycol helps hold moisture, dissolve formula components and improve spread. That makes it easier to work the tint into a controlled, even layer.
It is well established in topical products, but a minority of people can develop irritation or contact dermatitis. Patch-test before full application if you know your scalp is reactive.
Acrylates/Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer Film former
A second film-forming polymer reinforces pigment adhesion and helps the color layer stay uniform as it dries and wears.
Its role is on the surface: forming a cosmetic film, not changing the hair follicle. Thorough cleansing according to the product directions helps prevent unwanted residue buildup.
Hydroxyacetophenone Antioxidant support
Hydroxyacetophenone supports formula stability as an antioxidant and helps the preservation system work efficiently over the product’s intended shelf life.
It is used at supporting levels in many modern cosmetic systems. Its purpose here is product protection and stability—not a direct effect on hair growth.
PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil Solubilizer
This castor-oil-derived solubilizer helps disperse oil-compatible materials through the water phase. That supports a stable texture and a more even application.
Hydrogenation and ethoxylation make this a functional cosmetic emulsifier; it should not be interpreted as evidence that the formula treats hair loss or stimulates growth.
1,2-Hexanediol Solvent + preservative booster
1,2-Hexanediol helps dissolve ingredients, contributes light moisture and supports the broader preservation system.
It is a familiar multifunctional ingredient in modern cosmetic formulas and is generally used at low, supportive levels.
Phenoxyethanol Preservative
A water-based cream needs protection from microbial growth. Phenoxyethanol is a widely used preservative that helps keep the product safe and stable during normal storage and use.
It has a long history of cosmetic use within established concentration limits. Rare reactions can occur in very sensitive users, which is another reason to patch-test a new leave-on product.
Lauroamphozone Formula support
This amphoteric surfactant supports dispersion and helps water-based and oil-compatible components work together, contributing to a uniform cream.
Amphoteric surfactants are generally selected for mild formula support. As always, tolerance depends on the finished formula and the individual scalp.
Caprylyl Glycol Conditioning support
Caprylyl Glycol helps condition the skin surface, retain moisture and support the preservative system.
It is a common multifunctional cosmetic ingredient with a good tolerance profile in properly formulated products.
Sodium Laureth-12 Sulfate Surfactant
This ethoxylated surfactant helps wet and disperse formula components, supporting a consistent texture and even pigment application.
Sodium Laureth-12 Sulfate is not the same ingredient as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). It appears late in this list, but the exact percentage cannot be determined from label order alone.
C11-15 Pareth-7 Emulsifier
This nonionic surfactant helps stabilize and evenly distribute different parts of the formula, contributing to predictable texture and application.
It is used as a formulation aid rather than a hair or scalp treatment active. Individual sensitivities remain possible.
Potassium Sorbate Preservative
Potassium Sorbate helps control yeast and mold, complementing the formula’s primary preservation system and protecting product quality after opening.
It is widely used in both cosmetic and food applications. In a finished cosmetic, performance and tolerance depend on its concentration, pH and the rest of the preservation system.
